SATURDAY PANEL: Crossing Genres, Crossing Rivers

APRIL 11, 2026 @ 11:30 AM-12:30 PM

As the rivers of the Mississippi branch and converge, so too do writers’ styles, tastes, and even their primary genres. Over time, this evolution can result in new and surprising forms in much the same way that the flow of the river may erode and thereby shape its banks. In this panel, we will examine how and why we might explore new styles and forms of writing, and what this might offer in terms of innovation, insight, and play. We will also discuss how this opportunity for evolution provides an answer to the ever-changing social and political circumstances of our world.

SATURDAY PANEL: PATHS TO PROFESSIONALIZATION

APRIL 11, 2026 @ 2:00 PM-3:00 PM

Like a delta, writers’ career paths often begin in one place, a love for writing, and then branch off in many different directions. Some writers further their career by pursuing an MFA or life in academia. Others find success with a wide variety of career paths. In this panel, writers will discuss their personal paths to becoming professional writers and answer questions about work-life balance with writing, writing life and career options outside of academia, and how to go about pitching, getting an agent, and landing a book deal.
